Red Earth is a 12-acre natural paradise located in Auroville. Twenty years ago, it was completely barren land, so all the trees and flower bushes around the arenas and paddocks were intentionally planted. The result brings together a stunning dressage arena, surrounded by shade-giving trees and fragrant Frangipani bushes, a dressage warm-up arena, a round pen, and an Olympic-size show jumping arena.

All our paddocks are shaded by Neem trees, which purify the environment and provide natural insect repellence. They are also the only species of tree that we planted which survived the ever-nibbling horse herd!
The stables are all open format, which not only allows excellent ventilation but also gives the horses the opportunity to see and interact with each other. We are also one of the few equestrian centres in the country lucky enough to have paddocks adjoining every single stable. Our horses are out of their boxes for most of the day, which makes them much happier and more relaxed.

The Black Box - Guest Accommodations

The Black Box

Jacqueline took an ambitious approach when in 2015 she decided to create a cluster of guest accommodations at Red Earth Riding School. Having always been fascinated by recycled and upcycled goods, she seized the opportunity to make a ‘container home’ from old shipping containers. And her work was definitely cut out for her to transform these metal boxes into elegant and versatile living spaces. 

Alongside a German engineer, a group of enthusiastic friends, and local welders and carpenters, she worked to create two spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a kitchen, all over two levels and with three inviting outdoor sitting areas. The interiors feature a steampunk aesthetic that complements the industrial nature of the containers with comfortable furnishings and repurposed materials.

The Black Box is surrounded by trees and gardens filled with birdsong, and overlooks a field of frolicsome ponies, providing a striking intersection of the beauty of nature and an avant-garde twist on modern living.
